Join The Centre for MindBody Health (CMBH) to explore the fundamental elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) therapy led by Dr. Diana Hill.

Workshop Description

This workshop introduces clinicians to the concept of psychological flexibility, which is the cornerstone of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Psychological flexibility refers to an individual’s ability to stay present, open, and engaged in meaningful life actions, even in the face of difficult emotions or thoughts. Research consistently links psychological flexibility to better mental health and life satisfaction, making it a critical skill for therapists to foster in their clients. This course aims to provide practical tools for clinicians to help clients increase their psychological flexibility, enabling them to face life’s challenges with resilience and adaptability.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this Workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the concept of psychological flexibility and its relevance to mental health.
  2. Understand the role of experiential avoidance in mental health struggles.
  3. Learn how to use ACT-based interventions to increase clients’ acceptance, cognitive defusion, perspective taking, values, being present and committed action processes.
  4. Infuse compassion into ACT practice.
  5. Explore techniques to support their own psychological flexibility as clinicians, which enhances their capacity for empathy, resilience, and effective therapy.
